Hi

I am currently negotiating with several creditors, as both ill health and the recession have severly reduced our income. I am likely to be offered a medical severance shortly, but I do not know when or how much I will receive. I called Skycard to update them and make a token £5 payment, but was told that there really was no point as my account would be forwarded to a Debt Collection Company. She then made a point of saying it would be a doorstep collection.

Obviously I do not want this, but is this just a line used to frighten people, or can I expect people knocking on the door demanding money? If this is the case, does anyone have any advice regarding this?

Thanks

DJH

Hi,

It is possibly just a threat as the call centre staff employed by the creditors will try anything to get you to pay money. I was forever being threatened with that by Barclaycard and no one ever turned up.

However, it is always a possibility and I have read one or two posts on another forum about this. The collectors have always been very polite. You don't have to speak to them though and you don't have to pay them any money.
